I´m
Cyci Cade and I write urban fantasy and fiction novels for young
adult.

I´ll
never forget the first time I wrote a story; I was in fifth grade.
That experience enchanted me. What should be an insignificant
composition became a four pages flash story. My teacher didn´t like
it very much, but who cared? She did.
Well,
I had to shorten my compositions. However, it didn´t discourage me;
on the contrary, it made me try harder. I like a good challenge. I
like to try new things; some of them don´t work as I expect, but it
doesn´t matter. I always learn new things.
I
started writing articles for magazines, newspapers, and blogs. I
wrote my first book in 2010 and published it in 2012. It was so
amazing that I didn´t stop anymore. Writing makes me happy.
I
have received 5 stars reviews from professional websites, and
remarkable comments that have encouraged me.
During
my free time, I like reading, watching TV series, and movies.
I
live in Brazil and I have a cat named Angel. I love cats too.

Jameson Hartford and his wife, Abigail, return to their home in South Carolina to claim his inheritance, the Serenity Plantation, where he is determined to free all his workers and put an end to the evils of enslavement. Through the ordeal, he meets and falls in love with Delilah, one of his female workers, which further complicates the volatile situation.
Outnumbered and alone, he must sacrifice everything as he attempts to liberate Delilah and her people, facing confrontations, treachery, and even betrayal, culminating in a final deadly showdown between precious freedom and extreme prejudice.
A Northern Rebel is a romantic adventure that touches on human emotions and forbidden love amidst the rich backdrop of the old South at the onset of the Civil War.

Excerpt

Jameson tossed and turned until the wee small hours of the
morning, unable to fall asleep. His thoughts were filled with the
events of the day: Abigail, Bethany Sue, and especially Delilah.
He felt guilty about Abigail and shocked by Bethany Sue but
couldn’t get Delilah out of his mind. She suffered so much at the
hands of unscrupulous men. He decided to rise, get dressed, and
go down to slave row to be sure she was all right. He carefully
opened the bedroom door, and being reassured that Bethany Sue
was not there, he crept along the wall and down the stairs, finally
reaching the main door. He turned the knob and pulled the door
open, letting the hot, moist air engulf him.
He started down the path then suddenly stopped, wondering
what he would say to her. Would she think he was coming to take
advantage of her, to hurt her like his brother did? He decided this
was not such a good idea and it would be in his best interest to
go back to the house. He turned to retreat but was stopped by
a voice.
“Mista Jameson?”
He turned around to see Delilah standing there; looking
absolutely beautiful bathed in the pale moonlight.
Startled, he began to ramble. “Lilah, I couldn’t sleep. I was
concerned, I mean, worried about you. I wanted to be sure you
were all right. You were so sad. I wanted to say again how sorry
I was.”
She walked toward him.
He kept on speaking. “Abigail left me. She thought you and
I… Well, uh, I mean, she’s gone back to her mother.”
Delilah said softly, “I know. I saw her leave.”
He continued nervously, “I want you to know that you
never have to fear me. I would never hurt you or force you to do
anything you didn’t want to do.”
Delilah looked seductively into his eyes and whispered, “You
wouldn’t be forcing me.”
Jameson, confused for a second, did not know what to make
of this beautiful brown woman. He stuttered. “Are you saying, I
mean, that you… and I, that is, you would—”
She softly spoke. “You’re the first white man who ever talked
nice to me or even treated me with any kindness. You saved me
from that horrible Mista Slycott, and you care enough about me
and my people to give us our freedom, even though it puts your
life in danger. You’re the most wonderful person I ever met.”
She leaned in close to him and pressed her moist, soft lips
firmly yet gently on his. He did not hesitate and kissed her in
return. She tasted so different yet so delicious. They looked deep
into each other’s souls; she could see the desire in his eyes, he
could read the need in hers. They would never forget this moment
for the rest of their lives.
Delilah joined her hand into his and slowly led him into
the barn. They crawled onto a pile of hay and began to kiss each
other passionately. She started to unbutton his shirt. He, in turn,
removed her dress. They fell into each other’s arms and gave into
the temptation and the lust. They wanted each other badly.
He ran his hands up and down across her young body, touching
her first with his fingers and then with his lips. She returned the
affection with eager anticipation, exciting him more and more with
every touch—caressing, hugging, and kissing so deeply as they united
their two bodies in love. It was a love neither one of them understood,
but that didn’t seem to matter, as his lighter tan skin and her darker
brown skin blended together into a beautiful shade of brown. Their
state of ecstasy grew stronger and stronger, finally releasing all the
pent up fear and anxiety in the beauty of the moment.
Then they lay exhausted yet content in each other’s arms,
enjoying the forbidden love each one felt for the other. They
were lost in the moment and did not care about the time until
they heard the rooster crow. Reality was calling them back. They
hastily got dressed. He couldn’t resist a last kiss before letting her
leave, hoping this was not the end. They made no promises to
each other, for they both knew the risks and perils of their tryst.
However, he just couldn’t erase the big grin he had on his face as
he made his way back to the house. They couldn’t help turning
around, looking back at each other and smiling one more time,
wishing the moment did not have to end. He could still taste her
sweet scent in his mouth and vowed to himself to preserve the
memory for as long as possible until he could taste her once again.
Delilah was also smiling and dreaming of a love she knew
could not be. She slowly sauntered back to slave row only to find
the other slaves in turmoil.

Sale Blitz ~ The Odds of You and Me by Cecilia Galante

THE ODDS OF YOU AND ME
By Cecilia Galante

“Galante’s gift for storytelling lies in her ability to find the extraordinary within
the ordinary. Readers will fall in love with her unforgettably complex
protagonist, Bird, along with the overall authenticity of her prose.”
— Emily Liebertbestselling author of Some Women

http://static.harpercollins.com/harperimages/Isbn/large/2/9780062434852.jpgA talented and versatile author, CECILIA GALANTE’S YA novel The Patron Saint of Butterflies was made a Teen Read Selection by OPRAH.  In THE ODDS OF YOU AND ME (February 1, 2017; ISBN 9780062434852; $14.99),GALANTE considers the unvarnished reality of a young woman struggling to overcome her own mistakes, and the sexism and abuse that shockingly shape her reality in ways no young woman ever expects will become a part of her life.

In THE ODDS OF YOU AND ME we meet Bernadette, “Bird,” Sincavage, determined to escape the injuries and errors of the past to create a new life for herself and her four-year-old son, Angus.

Bird has a mere thirteen days to go before being free of probation. Free from making payments to the supermarket where she wrote bad checks. Free from living at home with her overzealous mother who’s constantly nagging her about attending church again. Free to finally create the normal life Angus deserves. Bird’s impending move to Moon Lake, where she’s plunked down a deposit on a brand new apartment, is so close she can almost taste it.  What could possibly go wrong in less than two weeks?

But before her probation is up, a force from Bird’s past—a potent symbol of the people and circumstances that have irrevocably shaped her adult life, comes storming to the fore in the form of one James Rittenhouse.

Bird is stunned to see James being arrested on the evening news for assaulting someone in a local bar. She is even more shocked to later discover him hiding out in an abandoned church choir loft. Somehow he escaped police custody, broke his leg, and got his hand on a gun—which he’s now pointing at her.

Bird doesn’t dare tell anyone she saw James, and there’s no way she’s helping him. She can’t screw up her probation or her second chance for a new future. And she has her son’s welfare to think about.  Still, Bird struggles to forget the terrified look in James’ eyes and the fact that he’s hurt.  James once defended her fearlessly when she needed him most, and it’s nearly impossible to forget his life saving intervention, or how he put himself in harm’s way to come to her rescue.

Bird simply can’t cast aside all that James has done for her, and thus capitulates to secretly assisting him as he remains a fugitive hidden inside the church.  Despite the dark clouds that gather, threatening Bird’s freedom and the future she has struggled so hard to establish for herself and her child—doing the right thing may lead indirectly to a redemption sweeter than anything she could have ever dreamed.

In THE ODDS OF YOU AND ME, with empathy and searing truth, CECILIA GALANTE brings a poignant tale about what it means to be well-intentioned yet misunderstood.  In Bird Sincavage we find an indefatigable young woman who thwarts the judgment of a mother who simply can’t wrap her head around her daughter’s life; a young woman who, with the aid of an unexpected ally, ultimately conquers the odds to find her own happiness.

In Conversation with Cecilia Galante

1                Cecilia Galante ap1 Did you learn anything new or surprising while writing your latest book?
I did, actually. The most obvious were all the strange facts I researched for James’ Curious Facts and Data book. Sometimes research for a book can be tedious, but the incredible information I uncovered for this one, including how the human heart beats more than 100,000 times a day, and that there is an actual name for the metallic way the air smells after it rains, were so interesting that it never felt like work. It was just so much fun!

2                How would you say the landscape in which you grew up (i.e. the region, culture, family)
has shaped you as a writer?

I always sigh a bit when I get this question because I know I’ll have to go into a lot of strange detail about my somewhat unusual background (born into and raised in a fanatically religious cult for the first fifteen years of my life in upstate New York) but I’ve also learned that sometimes it’s is not the physical place or the culture that shapes people who end up writing – it’s the books along the way. At least that was true for me. I’d be errant if I said that growing up without a solid relationship to my parents has influenced several storylines in my books, (including this most recent one) but I’m also pretty sure I became a writer because my eleventh-grade English teacher, who may have noticed that I was a little bit out of my element, having just moved from the cult into the “real world,” left a copy of The Catcher in the Rye on my desk.
I read the novel in a day, finishing the last chapter inside the school’s bathroom stall, weeping uncontrollably. In a world where almost nothing made any sense, here was someone who told the truth – no matter how ugly or scary or funny it was – without worrying whether or not others would stop loving him if he did. Was that how things worked out here? Were we really allowed to write and say things that might make us look weak or even downright crazy? Because if it was, I knew that day, that it was all I ever wanted to do with the rest of my life. And it still is.

3                What is the difference between a fleeting idea you have for a book, which you eventually
forget or discard, and one that gets you putting pen to paper, so to speak?

I’m not sure if there is a difference between the two. I’d say it’s more of a seed and soil analogy; almost all of my ideas that have eventually led me to the page have always started off as a fleeting thought of some sort. Sometimes it’s not even an idea; it’s just a character who has found herself in a ridiculously interesting situation. That might be the glimmer of the idea. The one that gets to the page is the one that keeps on glimmering, day after day, week after week, until it gets so bright you’ve got to put the damn thing down before you go blind.

4                Who or what inspires your characters? Do you have a particular type of character that fascinates you?

If I admitted to all the people I’ve known over the years who have influenced a character of mine in some way, I’d probably get in a lot of trouble! I’ve rarely based a character completely off someone I know; the process is more of an organic one, in which I start off thinking of someone and then watch as the character flourishes into someone in her own right. It happens like that all the time, and it always amazes me when it does, because the finished character is almost nothing like the original one I had in my head. The process is just incredible.
As for characters that fascinate me, I’d have to say the angry ones. Or more accurately, the ones that aren’t afraid to be angry or piss people off. I LOVE writing characters like that, probably because I am the polar opposite of them. It’s freeing to live vicariously through someone else for a while, even if it’s just on the page.

5                What is the best piece of advice you have received that has influenced you as an author?

Best advice I’ve ever received as a writer: Sit down and write.
Best advice I’ve ever received as an author: Don’t take no for an answer.

6                What is the most important thing you want readers to take away from your book?

Probably what I discovered while writing it: that God and parents and everything that goes with them are nothing without love.

Book Blitz ~ Celtic Fire - Highland Celts Series: Book 1 by Liz Gavin

Celtic Fire
Liz Gavin
(Highland Celts Series, #1)
Publication date: January 31st 2017
Genres: Adult, Historical, Paranormal Romance
This is a standalone, historical/paranormal romance. Its mature themes – violence, religious war, and pagan rituals – might not be appropriate for audiences under 18.
When ancient gods ruled and Druids kept Faith alive, the Celts thrived as a democratic, matriarchal society. Then savage Roman soldiers swept across Europe, killing and enslaving. The Celts did not succumb without a fight. Their Old Ways survived centuries of ruthless domain until another menace loomed: a tortured god worshiped in cold stone buildings. The sacred shores of Avalon began to drift away, the mists threatened to hide the island from mortal eyes forever.
Against the bleak backdrop of war, the gorgeous Scottish Highlands stood tall, sheltering its inhabitants from greedy invaders. Yet the reach of the eagle banners was long and the highlanders turned to the Goddess for protection. However, the sacred groves felt silent and grim as Avalon faded away. Once sad, pealing bells began to sound strangely comforting while the high walls of monasteries offered an alluring barrier from violence. Caught in the middle of this centuries-old war, a young High Priestess might be Avalon’s last chance.
Wise beyond her years and powerful like no other Priestess in her lifetime, Rowen had served the Goddess faithfully, forsaking her family and the company of her soulmate. When the Lady of the Lake asks for another sacrifice, it might be one too many for her scarred heart. How could she obey the Goddess without betraying Caddaric? Could she trust Eochaid, who embodied everything she despised and hated? Would she be able to fulfill her duties without losing her soul?
Caddaric had been Rowen’s companion in countless lives; but, now, they existed in different realms. Beautiful Rowen lived in the mortal world while sweet Caddaric remained in the sacred isle of Avalon, watching over her. Could he step aside to allow another man – a flesh and blood man – to become her protector?
Eochaid had sworn to protect the Old Ways. The rude warrior never quite understood his faith yet his loyal heart belonged to the Goddess. A gorgeous, fiery High Priestess was not in his plans. He would risk his life to protect Rowen; but, would the Goddess safeguard his heart? Could he defend the bewitching maiden from himself?
When stakes were so high that a simple mistake could cost their very world, a priestess, a Druid, and a warrior must learn to trust each other and the mysterious ways of the Goddess. Their success would save Avalon. Their failure would tear the island from the human realm forever, condemning it to oblivion.
Failure was not an option.
EXCERPT:
Rowen

Although my heart is heavy and my thoughts are gloomy, I take a deep breath and focus on the task at hand. I search for the sacred oak, the oldest tree in the grove. Finding it, I lie on the ground, face down, in front of the revered tree. Earth’s energy radiates from the ground, traveling through my body and limbs, filling me with a potent magnetism, and making my skin tingle as I say my prayer.
“Forgive me, Great Mother. I have failed you yet again. I am your vessel on this realm and as such I should never doubt your ways. Nevertheless, when the time came for Caddaric to go back to Avalon, I despaired and fought against the inevitable, as I always do.
Please, give me strength to control my weak heart, wisdom to understand your signs, and courage to do your bidding.”
The wind picks up around me making the dry leaves and little twigs swirl. Faint whispers come in the breeze. A thousand gentle fingers move over my body caressing, soothing me.
“Oh, Mother, you are too kind and never abandon me. I promise to serve you faithfully and perform my duties accordingly from now on.”
The wind blows stronger, molding my clothes to my body, covering me in dry leaves. I feel faint and when I open my eyes, I’m not in the sacred grove any longer. I’m lying on a sunny field, there’s a gentle breeze blowing from the distant line of apple trees, bringing the sweet smell of their flowers in full bloom. Recognizing my beloved isle of Avalon, I get up and look around. I see the Lady of the Lake standing just a few feet away. I go to her and offer a curtsy. The Lady gently holds me by my shoulders, smiles serenely and holds my gaze. Not for the first time, I wonder if her eyes can read my soul.
“Rise, Rowen, my child. And do not cry. You should rejoice over your successes instead of mourning what you perceive as failures. Your apprentices look up to you and seek your guidance, because your advice is wise and respectful. The villagers worship the Great Mother according to the old traditions, because they follow your firm yet kind leadership. Despite being so young, my beautiful Rowen, you are wise and your people respect you.”
I am touched by her words. I never expected the Lady of the Lake herself would answer my prayer and come talk to me, comfort me.
“You are too kind, my lady. I am honored and, although I think I do not deserve your comfort, I am thankful.”
“I speak only the truth, Rowen, as all true servants of the Goddess shall do. Now, you will not like what I need to tell you. You have always been loyal to your vows and I count on that loyalty to see you through the task I need you to undertake.”
“You frighten me, my lady. What do you need from me? You know I would never deny you, or the Great Mother, anything.”

Science Fiction but are fast becoming a reality in the emerging new
world.

Seb
Cage Begins His Adventures
The
Dreadnought Collective Book 1
by
Terry Tumbler

Genre:
YA SciFi Fantasy

and his younger brother Bart customarily spend all of their long
summer holiday in Spain, with their grandparents. Gradually, as they
all become older, relationships are strained, as the old folk try to
find things to keep the boys amused.
It
is not long before the grandfather, Tumbler, who is a retired
detective, is using Seb as a trainee investigator to keep tabs on the
movements of a sector of the local town who he thinks ‘don’t fit
it in’ – they are in fact dwarves of alien origin.
Soon,
Tumbler and his apprentice are rumbled, and Seb is invited to join a
summer campus. Coincidentally, this is run by the dwarves and has
only recently been set up, virtually on the Tumbler’s doorstep!
At
the campus, it gradually becomes apparent that Seb and his classmates
have been chosen beforehand, by genetic engineering. They find that
they possess special abilities, which have been implanted in them at
an early age, and realise that these are now being developed in a
matter of weeks.
Whatever
plans they may have had for the future, their chosen destiny now
awaits them.

The
Inlooker: Full Length
The
Dreadnought Collective Book 2

This
is a ‘black humour’ science fiction story set in the near future,
where a man finds that he has a very special talent. It is to take
over other people’s souls and thus possess their bodies as if they
were his own.
As
he becomes increasingly aware of his abilities, he first uses them to
mete out justice to mentally warped criminals, and then to undertake
sexual adventures.
Growing
tired of what are, in the scheme of things, trivial pursuits, he
embarks on a life of crime intent on accumulating serious amounts of
money. Whilst fleecing the wealthy, he comes across an alien hiding
amongst us, and is impressed by the seamless transport system on its
own planet, so he decides to emulate it on Planet Earth.
With
a colleague recruited from The Lockheed Skunk Works in America, he
develops a vehicle based on UFO technology, and uses it as a stepping
stone to power. His motivation soon goes beyond his revolutionary and
hugely successful transport system, and extends to a serious attempt
at population reduction. For this he requires even more prominence on
the world stage, as he battles aliens to prevent annihilation of the
expanding human race.
This
book charts his progress, as he strives to achieve the impossible. It
also monitors the impact on his family life, where he eventually has
to decide whether to opt for mortality or immortality.
If
all you want to read about is sexual adventures, and cannot be
bothered with the future of mankind, this book is not for you. It is
intended for those who like to ponder the value of life as we lead
it, and what it could be like if we chose to take up the challenge.

The
Time Slipsters
The
Dreadnought Collective Book 3

A
group of friends who have drifted apart decide to reunite and take a
trip together. It is the near future, and their intention is to
travel on the latest type of transport, in order to visit the ancient
sites in Turkey.
They
want to do this in luxury, and the travel company they selected has
done its best to accommodate their desires. They are lost for words
when they first cast their eyes on the spectacular, gleaming new
vehicle waiting for them. It is in fact alien in technology, and far
more of a futuristic craft than a mere ground-hugging coach.
Unwittingly,
they are entering a world where time travel is a reality and machines
can cater for individuals as well as the masses.
Soon,
they embarking on a sightseeing tour like no other they could have
imagined, and meeting a time-travelling stranger who takes them under
his wing.
More
than one person has a hidden agenda, as they realise when reach a
highly protected secret location. It contains hybrid creatures on
which the Gods of mythology are based.

The
Deaduction Agency
The
Dreadnought Collective Book 4

Witness
at first-hand a group of specialist investigators, as they set up and
run a new, innovative crime fighting agency. They are dedicated to
the resolution of criminal cases using paranormal assistance. This
will be a new, innovative and emerging brand of policing designed to
protect the citizens of our country.
Read
how they deal with the anti-social, disturbed behavior of a wayward,
divorced husband, who is on the verge of destroying the lives of his
ex-wife and their two young sons.
Read
how they identify the members of a murderous ring of pedophiles from
relatively few clues, and bring them to justice.
Read
how they move from ineffectively resolving one case at a time, and
onto tackling multiple cases with far more beneficial results to
society.
Read
thereafter how they clear the penitentiaries of criminals, starting
with the most dangerous inmates, using novel means to cleanse their
souls of sin, and equip them for new roles in life in special
clearing centers. The objective is to reintegrate them into society,
rendered capable of performing straightforward tasks and genuinely
purified, via the novel process of atonement.
Read
how they find one talented young man who was lost, presumed dead, and
reunite him with his family. Thereafter, as agents of change, they
help launch him on the path to stardom.
This
is not a simple, gory, two dimensional book, but an exploration into
the timely use of mediums in crime detection. It can pay dividends in
assisting the fight against crime.
They
use the latest techniques and technology in a future world that is
not far removed from that which exists today.

The
Sightseers Agency
The
Dreadnought Collective Book 5

The
first recruit to the new Sightseers Agency is a remote viewer who
actively seeks the resolution of events threatening world security.
Both
his fledgling agency and that of The Deaduction Agency are members of
The Dreadnought Collective.
The
term ‘Dreadnought’ is based on a type of battleship introduced in
the early 20th century, larger and faster than ever before and
equipped entirely with large-caliber guns.
It
applies in this instance because the cerebrally talented agents who
enter its portals are expected to fear nobody and be scared by
nothing in the performance of their duties.
They
pursue those who indulge in criminal and seditious activities in the
modern meritocracy using unorthodox techniques.

To
give you some idea of my background, I was born in 1944, retired in

IBM before I got itchy feet, even though I was well regarded.
Afterwards, I worked as an Organisation & Methods specialist and
came up with some cracking ideas before I moved into mainstream
computing and became involved in programming, analysis and
management.
At
school, I gained a string of school level certificates before leaving
and gaining a commercial apprenticeship, an Advanced Certificate in
Business Studies, and professional qualifications in Personnel
Management and the Institute of Company Secretaries and
Administrators. During my time, I have used desk top publishing and
spearheaded the writing and publication of two detailed, technical
manuals, one of which was regarded as the administrative bible by a
(then) major force, British Olivetti. The other manual was used by me
as a resident teacher of electronic data interchange (EDI) for a
specialist software house, where it was distributed as a tour de
force.
I
took up writing at an advanced age simply because I had the time and
desire, and the first hand enjoyable experience of helping my younger
daughter to tame her two mischievous boys.
