The chilling conclusion to the award-winning Things Unseen romantic thriller series.

He’s forced to make an impossible choice—and the deadline is deadly.

Dr. Cornelius O'Brien brought his new girlfriend, psychotherapist Neve Keane, to his home country of Ireland for a romantic getaway. There’s just one thing they need to do first: a personal favor for the President of the United States.

It was supposed to be simple: check on the president’s goddaughter, who is struggling with a strange medical problem while studying abroad in Cork City. But with every step, Neve and Cornelius find themselves first slipping, then plummeting toward a terrifying, clandestine world at the abyss of human suffering.

Trapped by malicious forces he can't escape, Cornelius must make a terrible choice: violate the Hippocratic oath or put Neve in imminent danger. Left in the dark, Neve faces her own perilous dilemma: honor her promise to Cornelius or act quickly to keep an innocent young woman out of the hands of vicious murderers.

With no good options, they are forced to act. Meanwhile, the patient is prepped...and the clock is ticking.

“This is so magical.”

It was like being inside a living painting. Ancient standing stones encircled us, some upright, some leaning or fallen on their sides, all mottled gray with moss and lichen. Clouds swept across the sky like pieces of pulled cotton, filtering the golden October sunlight as it touched the rolling hills, which glowed shades of fluorescent green. Dark hedgerows thick with the yellow flowers of furze bushes wrapped themselves around the fields as scattered clusters of sheep dotted the countryside. I took a deep breath, inhaling the crisp scent of fresh air and wild things growing.

“You always say that about bacon.”

Con’s Irish brogue curved around his teasing words, the deep resonance of his voice drawing my gaze back to the man I loved. His rough-hewn features mirrored the rugged landscape as his hefty frame dwarfed our small folding table. I was touched; he had dressed up a bit for our picnic in a button-down shirt and dress pants. A new wool overcoat was draped around his shoulders. The sling cradling his left arm was the only visible reminder of our recent misadventures.

I lifted a strip of crispy brown bacon to my lips and tried to bite into it seductively, but it crumbled instantly. Shards scattered across my plate. “Am I wrong?”

“You’re right, of course.” Con chose a piece for himself, neatly breaking it into small pieces before popping one into his mouth.

Pointing one of my salty shards at him, I said, “I thought this was called ‘streaky bacon’ here. What you all call ‘bacon’ looks more like sliced ham to me.”

“Right again.” Con looked off into the distance as though contemplating a deep philosophical point. “Living in the US, I must have lost touch with my roots.”

“What better place to get back in touch?” I swept my hand out toward the large stones surrounding us.

Following the advice to “write what you know,” ANISE EDEN authors psychological suspense and paranormal romance novels. Her qualifications include growing up in the countryside where rattlesnakes and cougars jumped out of nowhere; living with family members who are a little bit psychic; and having her life saved on more than one occasion by her SEAL Team of guardian angels.

After college, Anise soaked up life in NYC, Washington DC, and points in between. She tried her hand at grooming horses, scooping ice cream, and designing billboards before returning to school to become a psychotherapist. Though she left that field after many rewarding years, Anise remains a passionate mental health advocate.

Continuing her real-life adventures, Anise is now exploring life in Ireland with her husband and their small, benevolent canine dictator. While her books have won multiple awards, Anise’s propensity for dropping glass objects while barefoot makes it highly likely that her next win will be a Darwin Award.
