She thinks of him as a friend. He’s loved her since high school.
She’s holding on to the past. He’s worked hard to overcome his.
Brooks knew better than to fall in love with Jaclyn. She’s a trust fund kid, and he’s from the wrong side of the tracks. Guys like him never end up with girls like her. His head understood the rules. His heart was another story.

EXCERPT:
“I just realized something,” he said
after a few seconds. “Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.”
“I know. That’s why I went to the
grocery store yesterday afternoon while you were with Candy getting your
occupational therapy. We’ll be having Cornish hens instead of turkey, with
cornbread stuffing and sweet potato casserole.”
“You can’t miss Thanksgiving with
your family, Jaclyn.”
She removed two slices of bread from
the loaf. “It won’t be the first time.”
“You were out of town those other
times.”
“Technically, I’m out of town now,”
she replied as she unscrewed the lid of the peanut butter.
Brooks walked over to stand beside
her. “It’s not the same.”
“I’m not leaving you here alone, and
the last thing you need is two long car rides with nonstop commotion in
between.”
His brows came together. “I can
manage by myself for a few hours. I’m not a child.”
“I guess I’ll have to spell it out.
I want to spend Thanksgiving here.
With you.” The last five or six words
came out louder than she intended.
“Can you repeat that?” he asked with
a reluctant grin. “I didn’t hear you the first time.”
“Keep that up, and you’ll be wearing
peanut butter.”
He dropped a kiss on her nose.
“Don’t go putting ideas in my head.”
She was hoping for another kiss,
preferably on her mouth, but it didn’t happen.
“Where do you want to eat your
sandwich?”
“In the living room. I’ll go see
what’s on television. I think there’s an NBA game on tonight.”
“I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
It was barely more than that before
she joined him. When she held out his plate, he smiled in a way that raised her
suspicions immediately.
“What do you find so amusing?”
“I just noticed what you’re
wearing.”
Jaclyn glanced down at her Hershey
Kisses pajamas. Superman couldn’t see through them. “Be careful what you say
about my pj’s. They were a Christmas gift from Liesl last year.”
“I was only going to say they’re
appropriate for a self-proclaimed chocoholic. They make you look warm and
cuddly.”
“Which is exactly what I’m going
for,” she said, sitting down next to him on the couch. “You know I can’t stand
to be cold. I break out the flannel in October.”
He shook his head. “How did you
survive in Ireland? The average temperature there can’t be more than fifty.”
“I lived in sweaters and ski pants.”
“Sounds about right. Thanks for making
this,” he said as he picked up one of the sandwich triangles. “My mom used to
cut sandwiches this way, too.”
“I wish I could have met her.”
“Me, too. She was always working. I
think about that when I come home exhausted from a double shift. She never
complained, and she never felt sorry for herself. When I first told her about
meeting you, she said any girl who likes to fish must be worth knowing.”
“What do you think she meant by
that?”
“I think she was saying that anglers
have to be patient, determined and persistent. They have to be able to laugh
when things go wrong. They can’t be afraid to try new things or admit they
don’t have all the answers. Someone with those qualities would be nice to be
around.”

About the Author
I'm a Georgia girl at heart if not by birth. I love to read, watch college football, and spend time with my husband. I'm a hopeless romantic so there will always be a happily ever after in my stories. I also like to write about second chances because love doesn't always work out the first time.
My books are sweet romances set in both contemporary and regency settings featuring stories about the journey to love, from that first meeting to the point where two people know their hearts are no longer their own. My characters aren't perfect. They make mistakes and have faults like the rest of us. They learn the sometimes painful truth that the path to love isn't always smooth, but it's a road worth traveling.
