Professor Rand Cunningham is shot and left for dead on the Penningtons' front lawn, and Lyssa Pennington could be next. Who's behind the drive-by hit?
• The husband of one of Rand's conquests?
• The lawyer-brother of the student whose sexy video went viral on the Internet?
• The father of the actress passed over for a part in the movie of Rand's bestseller?
Detective Shaughnessy hunts for the badass truck seen speeding away from the scene.
Lyssa and Kyle follow a lead to Norway, where villains, trolls, and other bombshells will change their lives forever.
A look over her shoulder showed Rand
standing still, his face clouded with worry.
“What’s wrong?”
His voice held a note of panic. “That
truck is still around. I can hear its engine.”
She scanned Seneca Street to the left and
again to the right. No truck. She was about to ask if he’d smoked a joint when
a rumble caught her attention. A glance to her left showed a black pickup truck
turning the corner two blocks away. She rubbed her arms against a sudden chill.
“Come on.” She tugged Rand’s arm and
headed them toward her dented VW Passat. They were still ten feet from the car
when the roar of the truck’s motor drowned out whatever Rand meant to say. Like
a monster with orange flames shooting up its side, the truck surged across the
intersection.
Lyssa and Rand, frozen in place, mouths
hanging open, watched it squeal to a stop and begin a slow crawl past them.
Lyssa screamed when its passenger window
slid open and the barrel of a gun pointed at them.
