What can go wrong being stuck on a cruise ship with your ex and entering into a fake relationship with a sexy coworker? It might not be the Titanic, thank goodness, but Eve Richard’s heart is sinking by the minute and love is definitely going down.
Pulitzer-prize-winning war journalist turned small-town newspaperman, Adam Seager, has given up a lot for his work, country, and family, but not this time. He knows what he wants, and it’s his coworker, Eve. Her smile is the brightest part of his day and a daily reminder that more adventures are yet to come. When they are both assigned a travel feature on board a new cruise ship, it’s the perfect opportunity to let his feelings set sail.
Eve will never date another coworker or writer again. Been there, done that. Time to pursue her own writing dreams, even if it means bunking with the infuriating and complicated Adam Seager. So what if the butterflies he sets off in her belly can rival the waves outside their cabin. She intends to keep things strictly professional … that is, as much as they can be while also pretending to be a couple. Their relationship might be fake, but the pull to get to know more of him is real. Her reporter’s gut says there is more to uncover than meets the eye. But what will happen when they are back on dry land?
What in the hell did he have in mind then?
Eve tugged her hand away, her lust-filled mind scrambling for
something to say. Her heart hammered at the possibilities as she tried not to
melt right off his metal desk and slink to a puddle at his feet. Likely, it was
her imagination running a marathon. Adam was not interested in her that way,
his odd behavior today notwithstanding. As always, she was reading too much
into his intense, charcoal eyes. He’d discovered a new way to rile her was all.
That must be it. He was messing with her.
And for the life of her, she couldn’t remember his question. Oh,
right. It wasn’t a question. They were talking about how she could repay him.
The tantalizing options flowing through her mind were not acceptable. She was
sure she was blushing again from even considering some of the ideas that came
to mind.
“I promise I’ll pay you face value for those tickets you lost,”
she squeaked. Yes, she’d actually squeaked, and she almost smacked herself on
the forehead for it.
Get a grip! He’s been getting under your
skin since you met him, and the moment he bats his long lashes that any woman
would die to have, you turn into a blithering idiot.
His lush lips quirked into a lopsided grin that she’d come to know
well whenever they talked. Staring at her intently, he shook his head. “I don’t
need the money.”
“Then what do you need?” she threw back, her adrenaline rising
like it often did when he baited her.
His grin turned downright devilish.
