Poppy sat at a round table in the corner, surrounded by piles of drawings. She still wore her gardening clothes, and her eyes were heavy lidded. She looked intense and flushed and disheveled.
Beautiful.
No. He must stop doing that. Must chasten his reactions to her.
Hardworking. She looked tired from her labors.
He cleared his throat. “Poppy. You’re still awake.”
She looked up at him with a guilty expression. “Your Grace. Yes. And it seems I have invaded your study — I’m so sorry. The others were playing whist in the library and I thought to finish my work in the quiet. I’m just finishing — I’ll leave you.”
“Never mind. Stay. Please. Show me what it is you’re sketching.”
She hesitated. He felt her eyes linger on his face, like she was trying to discern something about him. No doubt, her downcast expression had something to do with his invasion of her bedchamber the previous evening. He needed to address that. No woman who’d been raised in Grove Vale would be ignorant of the stories about his father. He could not have her think that he expected similar liberties of her. He had taken far too many as it was.
“Poppy, last night — I hope I didn’t alarm you. I apologize for intruding. I would not normally disturb a lady’s privacy, and I hope I gave no offense. I was concerned. You seemed quite distressed.”
Her face flickered. “It was only a nightmare,” she said finally. “I shan’t disturb you again.”
“I was not disturbed,” he said quickly.
She smiled. “When I awoke this morning I wondered if I had dreamt you.”
“No,” he said, drinking in her languid eyes.
She reached up and touched his face above his cheekbone. “No,” she agreed. “Here you are. Real indeed.”
Damn him, but he caught her hand and dragged it down to his lips and placed a kiss inside her palm.
Her mouth parted. Perhaps in shock. Perhaps in something closer to the feeling surging behind his sternum, overriding his judgment, his propriety, his will to be the kind of person he had spent a decade refashioning himself into.
“Forgive me. I am not myself tonight,” he forced himself to say, releasing her. He looked into her green eyes and told her the truth of it: “You should leave me.”
He meant it.

He hoped she wouldn’t listen.
               Author Bio:

Scarlett Peckham fell in love with romance novels as a child, sneaking paperbacks from the stash in her grandmother's closet. By the time she came of age she had exhausted her library's supply and begun to dream of writing one of her own.

The thought of viewing artwork created more than a millennia ago excited Lydia. That someone had the skills to cut and carve marble into such detailed works of art meant the ancestors of humanity weren’t the barbaric creatures she had been warned of whilst still in the schoolroom in Merriweather Manor.
For every Spartan, there had been an Athenian, after all.
Viewing statues of mostly naked men would have been nearly impossible if there were too many others with her in the Gallery. On a day such as this, she had the room to herself.
She didn’t exactly study the statues, but surreptitiously surveyed them as she slowly walked around each one. She found them intriguing. Men nowadays weren’t so very different from those of two- or three-thousand years ago, she decided, although she only had experience with the two from current times. Perhaps the Greeks were more beautiful. Youthful, mayhap. Or perhaps they only depicted younger subjects because it was difficult to carve wrinkles into marble.
The reclining man before her was definitely youthful, his body barely muscled, his face relaxed as if he were sleeping. She could almost feel his soft breaths as he lay there, one arm raised above his head and angled so its hand was atop his curly hair whilst the other was bent with its hand resting beneath his chin. He wasn’t entirely naked but wore a cape tossed over one shoulder, and the folds of a skirt were strewn about his mid-section. His feet sported sandals with leather ties wrapped about his thick ankles.
Awareness of another’s presence in the gallery had the hairs on the back of her neck reacting.
The sensation of a soft breath wafted over her shoulder again, this time bearing the slightest hint of sandalwood and spice cologne. Stiffening where she stood, Lydia realized someone was standing directly behind and to her left. A man, no doubt, given the scent of his cologne. She was about to put voice to a complaint, but he put voice to a most audacious claim before she had a chance.
“I’ve been told I look exactly like him,” the male voice whispered, almost in her ear.
Lydia carefully stepped to the right and turned slightly, amazed to see that, yes, the intruder did indeed look exactly like Adonis. Or Endymion sleeping on Mount Latmos, if one remembered the label mounted next to the block of marble. He was also impeccably dressed in a superfine navy topcoat, an elaborately embroidered waistcoat in red and gold, and buckskin breeches that, at the moment, left absolutely nothing to the imagination as far as his muscular thighs and the bit of anatomy that was located just above them. A quick glance at his tasseled boots, and Lydia was sure she could see her reflection. One of his gloved hands was pressed onto the top of a cane handle decorated in ornately-patterned silver plate while the other held what appeared to be a sketchpad.
“You do, in fact,” she murmured, her gaze darting back and forth between the statue and his living twin. “Are you related, perhaps?” she asked with an arched eyebrow.
“My mother must have thought so. She named me Adonis,” he replied with an equally arched eyebrow.











A
self-described nerd and lover of science, Linda Rae spent many years
as a published technical writer specializing in 3D graphics
workstations, software and 3D animation (her movie credits include
SHREK and SHREK 2). An interest in genealogy led to years of research
on the Regency era and a desire to write fiction based in that
time.


A
fan of action-adventure movies, she can frequently be found at the

Author
Nicole D'Settēmi is
a 33 year old writer, currently living in upstate New York. She has
lived in five regions nationally, including South Florida and New
York City. She has always been a self-described "poetic,
nomadic, creative soul," and is an enthusiast of a variety of
artistic mediums, but considers writing her number one form of art,
and feels everything else is just an extension of that passion and
creative outlet.
Nicole
was raised in Niagara Falls, a tiny town bordering Canada, and can
remember being as young as six, when writing her first lyrical, and
philosophical poems. She specifically pin-points two pieces during
those years, titled "If I Ruled the World," and "If
the World Ended.” She also points out being selected at 6, for the
"Young Authors Club," which was a city-wide project.
Nicole
won two city-wide essay contests between the ages 9-11, which was
when she received her first typewriter and then she started a
fan-club and newsletter for her childhood hero, as well as penning
letters to over 30 pen-pals internationally. She also had a poem
named "And So It Begins" published which was written at 12.
Though
Nicole (who was an honor student) rebelled by 15, and was
incidentally expelled from school, she still wrote habitually. She
once showed her “alternative-school” teacher a poem titled:
"That's Life," which she penned at 14. He was so impressed
with the piece; he had it faxed to every school in the city.
At
16 Nicole was uprooted from her small town and moved to Boca Raton,
where she felt displaced and started to deal with depression.
Hereditarily, mental illness and substance abuse ran rapid in her
family tree, and by 20 she experimented with a plethora of chemical
substances. By 23, she became addicted to shooting heroin, and was
engaged to her co-conspirator and partner-in-crime. She attended an
art school for photo journalism, but withdrew half-way through the
year, due to a devastating addiction to injecting various drugs.
Addictarium
was written while she spent two years in a therapeutic community for
seriously addicted, and mentally ill, patrons. The author outlines
her experiences, including the tale of losing her eyesight due to
shooting a poisoned bag of heroin, which is when she was forced to
hitch a greyhound bus from South Florida to Manhattan, and after
several weeks of surgeries, was admitted to Daytop Village for
long-term treatment, and drug addiction recovery. The book outlines
many of the experiences she went through in the second phase of
treatment, which she dubbed "the village," because of its
extreme and eccentric melting pot of personalities.
During
her tenure at Daytop, Nicole separated with her fiancé, and while in
her stay at the recovery program in Queens New York, met her current
fiancé, who was initially her substance abuse counselor. The book is
also highly reflective of their relationship and its roots.
Nicole credits the Latin, Brooklyn-bred counselor, 18 years her
senior, with "saving her from herself.”
Nicole can now be found
residing in the Poughkeepsie area with her fiancé, Miguel. They are
both artists, and run a modest side business creatively assisting
those in need of artistic direction digitally. Nicole is currently
planning to eventually pen a prequel to Addictarium. She is also
outlining a third individual novel, Narssitopia, which she
claims will be a "psycho-dramatic thriller."

doing extensive research on both Sandmen and Angels trying to get my
facts straight.
Then,
I also create Art Journals that can be cross generational from
thirteen to sixty years younger, My goal with these types of books
are to reach people who need that extra feel good in their lives.

Update - Where Has Teatime and Books Been?


Hi Friends,

I just wanted to update everyone that I was in the hospital at the end of July and came home a week later and then ended up sick with Strep Throat on top of everything I went through. So, this is why Teatime and Books have been out of commision these past weeks. Thanks for your understanding and we should be back on schedule this coming week! :)
