Book Tour ~ Bone (& Body) Lessons - Culture, Measurement, and Language by Lois P. Liggett

Culture, Measurement, and Language

Nonfiction / Language and Physiology

Date Published: December 6, 2023

Publisher: Mindstir Media

One way to understand self is through the skeletal frame. Skeletal bones hold many secrets which can be unlocked to tell stories of humankind; they become lessons for life. This book provides four perspectives on bone: culture, measurement of bones and body postures, grammar, and bone names. Word roots and definitions related to bone vocabulary allow the reader to gain insight. A major theme is to know oneself-to develop self-awareness. What can a person learn about self from bones? This book accompanies each person on their quest to know themselves, whether or not on a conscious or subconscious level. The current popularity of DNA kits that are being sold today-as well as the many websites offering assistance to people delving into their ancestry-validate this. Whether it is to delve into possible hereditary health conditions or to locate relatives and forge a connectedness to others in the world around them, people want to learn more about themselves. Bones provide such framework, for body and self.

INTRODUCTION

Words in this book are methodically explored with their etymologies and definitions to reveal the fundamental nature of the skeletal structure. See Method of Word Exploration below.

Before exploring bone names culture, bone as symbol, correlations in grammar and sentence structure, and measurements and growth of the skeletal frame are presented. This book has four parts. The first part discusses bone as symbol and as an integral part of cultural beliefs and practices. The second part introduces the relationship of language and grammar to bone names. The third part shows how everyday language is related to measurement of bone. The last part presents an exploration of the meaning of the names of bones in the body. The four parts of this book are like sets of skeletal keys that can be used to develop body awareness. Each set of keys opens up a greater understanding of self.

The quest to “Know Self” is just one of several wisdom precepts integral to understanding the “Lessons” presented in this book. Knowing self is key to promoting wisdom. Another precept, “Know thy measure,” is related to passages that state man is made in the image of God. St. Bernard of Clairvaux (circa 1090-1153), founder of the Cistercian order sates, “What is God? He is length, width, height, and depth.” Knowing self through measurement is a way to, at least, begin to understand the Creator.

Humankind, in many world paradigms, is made in the image of the Creator, and therefore is him/her self a Temple, a Holy and Sacred body. The human can recognize measurement as an attempt to know self, compared to other. Pythagoras, the 6th cent. BCE Grk philosopher and mathematician states that all is number. Geometry is part of the field of mathematics. Since geometry can be defined as a measure of the Earth and the heavens, and humans are of the Earth, geometry also applies to the “measure of Man.” Geometry as fixed measures also reveal implied continuous motion of angles and dimensions. There are standards of measurements that are recognized as criteria for normal development. Bone growth development of an individual as measured in height and body proportions has recognized standards. Measurement of growth of the skeletal structure is vital data as part of cultural values including medical evaluations. Words related to human posture are explored. This represents one’s stance in life at any given time.

How does a person measure him/her self? What standards are applied to self or other? What is my capacity to judge something? What constitutes my ruler? When is it wrong to measure through comparisons? Am I competent to measure? The answers to these questions are part of the quest to know self, down to the very bones in the body.

Lya

I run.

It’s just who I am.

Whenever things get tough, I bail. Every new situation I find myself in, I have an exit strategy. Because I know what could happen if I don’t.

Things are about to get bad, and I don’t understand how or why. I’m in a new place, with no pre-existing connections. I’ve developed a life for myself where no one could suspect a thing out of the ordinary. I fit in - or at least try to. But here I am, ready to run.

Let’s just hope I do so in time.

***
Oliver

I didn’t ask to be in these shoes. In fact, I was thoroughly looking forward to a life of little more than personal responsibility. I never saw my future tied to this place, no matter how much it is a part of me. The responsibility was thrust upon me, and with no one else left to step up, I had no choice. These are my people - my family - and this is my home. I couldn’t turn my back, even if I wanted to. That’s a type of betrayal I would never be able to stomach.

Any semblance of my plans years ago have fallen by the wayside, but that’s just the nature of the beast - and I am the beast.

Times are changing. I can feel it in my bones. I just hope we are ready, and I am capable of protecting those that are relying on me.

Lydia Maine spent her childhood building fairy houses and arguing the existence of dragons. A few decades into that childhood, and life doesn't look much different. She writes in cursive and drives stick shift. Some days, she wears all black with purple lipstick and goes to seedy dive bars, while others she dons vibrant sundresses and dances through fields of wildflowers. Everything, to her, is an adventure, so it's no surprise she now writes about such. It's only a shame she has to add in the description of "paranormal" or "fantasy" now.

Lydia's writing is either the cause or result of her insomnia. Her books reflect traumas she has experienced and some she will never know. She draws on the mundane to further glorify the fantastical lives she would rather be living, leaving small pieces of herself in each story she tells.

Book Tour ~ Rising Darkness - The Torch: Book 1 by Bertrand Coruscare

Young Adult - Sci-Fi / Fantasy

Date Published: September 18, 2022

"He wanted more power, and more control. When I was with him, that seemed to be his main goal."

"What other power was there?"

"Oh, more than you could ever know."

PROLOGUE

The man sat patiently upon his throne-like chair—formidable to all who dared enter into his dark splendor. The throne, as he called it, was supported by a raised platform, several stairs leading up to it. Shrouded in pitch black robes, he appeared only a silhouette—his red eyes striking fear into anyone who was brave enough to peer into them. The circular room had no windows. Massive clusters of blood diamonds gleamed furiously on the walls, glistening in their geometric designs. Two doors stood in front of him, though they were merely vague outlines in the darkness.

Any minute now, he thought.

Just then, the doors in front of him swung open, revealing his most trusted assistant. The assistant reached the stairs to the throne and bowed.

“Arise,” spoke the voice upon the throne, gazing down upon the man.

“My Lord,” said the assistant. “They are ready.”

“Excellent,” said the man upon the throne.

His voice was a deathly calm, almost as if a cat was purring just before it devoured a bird. The assistant knew this, and he knew what the cat’s true temper looked like—and he knew to avoid it with his life.

“Bring me my hunters,” said the man on the throne.

He gleamed at his assistant, drilling him with a red stare of menace as the assistant arose and left the room hastily, not speaking a word—not daring to stoke the fire of a temper that would burn him alive—the stalking cat that would pounce out of the shadows

Book Tour ~ Through the Eyes of Truth by Suzy Bootz

Inspirational

Date Published: 02-10-2010

It's the time for you to create the life you meant to live by connecting to God within. Your prayers have more power than you can imagine. So many of us forget that as children of God, abundance is our birthright!

INTRODUCTION

I always thought I knew how to pray, as anytime I remembered to thank God for my blessings, I would pray. Whenever I was feeling lost and had turmoil in my life, I would sit down and pray. After I left my full-time job and a long-term career doing something that didn’t fulfill me, I began feeling an internal restlessness. I had always dreamt of becoming a writer and inspiring those around me. It wasn’t until my mom lost her battle with breast cancer when I truly learned to understand the power of prayer. I went from believing that through faith all things were possible, to the painful realization that not even faith can prevent the passing of someone you love.

Before mom passed away, I used to write poems and I always dreamt of following in her footsteps of being a published author. Writing was always the most comfortable method I had of expressing my voice, and it allowed me to feel connected to one of her amazing talents. After mom died, I didn’t write again for five years. I was so sad that I could not bring myself to tap into the feelings of loss I had experienced from losing my mom.

One afternoon, I sat down and asked God in prayer to show me my truth. I wanted to know where my life was going and what I could do to replace the feelings of sadness and restlessness, with feelings of fulfillment and joy. What happened next was the answer I to my prayer. I sat down and opened my computer and began to write. The words just flowed out of me with such speed, and all I could see in front of me were the words that flooded across the keyboard to create this book.

These words are the reflection of my spiritual dialogue and the answer to my prayer. It is my belief that each of us needs to go within our own soul and discover God, and hear the answer to our own prayers. Nothing can speak for God outside of you because Source energy resides within each and every one of us individually. These words are only my prayer and I chose to share them, because maybe one person will discover their own intimate time with God, and go within for their own prayer. Most importantly, realize that every word, thought, and emotion is heard.

These pages are filled with the answers that I was hearing from the echo's of my own soul as I shared my time in prayer with God. The words on these pages began to fill with information that I would later go back and read, only to discover that my journey to find knowledge and inspiration, would truly inspire me to share with others who may be experiencing their own journey into self. For some individuals will read these words and find they are not in agreement, as it does not resonate with their spiritual journey at this time. However others may read this journal and become inspired to seek God within themselves and ask the same questions. How can you become happier, more abundant, and find your own purpose on this precious journey called life.

This is just one segment of my journey. One that began with the passing of my mother. If it can lead me to a long and beautiful passage through the windows of my soul, then her death and her fight was not in vain. What she taught me in life, she continued to share with me in her passing –God is real, miracles happen every day, and nothing will ever separate the love of a mother from her child. Not in life and not even in death. My mom often told me that I was a cocoon on the verge of transforming into a butterfly. It’s as if she somehow knew the spiritual journey I would be embarking upon. Through the turns and passages on the road through my spiritual journey, I can now honestly say… Momma…I think I’ve finally become that butterfly.

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”

Book Tour ~ There, He's Crying - A Memoir by Ken Magill

Memoir / Terrorism

Publication Date: November 6, 2023

Publisher: Mindstir Media

Ken Magill grew up in a time where kids played "guns" all day and no one batted an eye. They had crab-apple wars and shot tennis-ball cannons at each other. In summer, they went out in the morning and their mostly stay-at-home moms had no idea where they went or what they were doing.

Magill's mercurial, violent, loving, and hilarious father was a vicious debater and a take-no-prisoners competitor who helped him develop the strength to overcome challenges as an adult.

"There, He's Crying" is alternately laugh-out-loud funny, heart-warming and disturbing.

A gripping, first-hand account of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center will make you feel like you're there.

Magill, a cigar-smoking, martini-drinking, gun-enthusiast, demonstrates love and sacrifice for a son who has declared himself a transgender woman. The email exchange between the two who clearly love one another but are 180-degrees apart will make this book worth your time.

Ultimately, "There, He's Crying" is about knowing when to make life-altering decisions and dive into the unknown.

About the Author

Ken Magill’s 30-year, mostly New-York-based writing career featured ground-breaking work for marketing-trade publishers such as DM News, Direct and Multichannel Merchant Magazines and ClickZ. His work has also appeared in the New York Sun, Buffalo News, AdWeek, Target Marketing Magazine and West Virginia Executive.

He lives with his wife, one offspring, two dogs, a cat and a dozen chickens just outside Charleston, W. Va.
