BOOK SYNOPSIS
Ash MacBryde thinks he knows what he wants. When his sister offers him the chance to return to his roots and take over running the ranch, he jumps at the chance. Ranching has always been his first love but it doesn’t fill the long lonely nights.
Oak Richards’ career is skyrocketing, earning him national recognition in his sport of endurance racing. But after an unfortunate riding accident, when his mentor and lover decides Oak is no longer flavor of the month, he’s cast adrift.
Will a little luck, a healthy dose of fate, and a matchmaking sister conspire to bring together two damaged men living two thousand miles apart?
For the shy, reclusive Oak and the domineering, territorial Ash there’s more than distance separating them. When they finally meet, sparks fly; but it will take more than just a powerful attraction to bridge the gap between them.

EXCERPT
When Oak Richards accepts Ash MacBryde’s offer of employment to train horses at Crow Creek ranch after months of negotiations and skyping, burning up the airwaves late into the night, they finally meet face-to-face at the Denver airport:
“You were waiting for,” Ash blinked and ticked off the time, “what, almost four hours?”
“I didn’t want to make you wait if the flight was delayed.”
Of course you didn’t.
And he would have been stuck in the baggage area with no place to sit, nothing to eat or drink. Waiting, because he didn’t want his new employer to be inconvenienced.
Not that he was trying to up the ante, but Ash explained, “The roads are bad,” and waved a hand around the room. “I figured it might be better not to drive home tonight. It’s seven hours or so. Longer if the weather’s bad.”
Oak finally looked him in the eye and sputtered, “S-seven hours?”
It was Ash’s turn to shrug. He wasn’t sure who was going to win in the non-verbal communication category. So far it seemed pretty much a draw.
Glancing at his watch, he asked, “You hungry?”
Ash marveled as gratitude blossomed in bottomless blue eyes, followed by hesitancy and a fierce reluctance to appear at all dependent. He understood that all too well. He’d been there for many long months after his father kicked him out, relying on handouts to survive, doing whatever it took. It was one reason he’d ended up in the military. Uncle Sam and the Corps had given him the one gift he’d thought he lost forever that Christmas Eve so many years ago: his self-respect.
Although he was more comfortable judging horses than people, Oak was like an open book to him. And that was yet another reason to go slow. They were too much alike, skittish with anything new. Oakley Richards was going to require time and gentling.
He hoped to hell he was a good enough man for the job.
AUTHOR BIO
Nya Rawlyns is a writer, editor and hopeless optimist. She’s lived on a sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay, ridden more than 1000 miles in trail competitions on horseback and been owned by two Newfoundlands. She’s currently staff for a herd of cats and a herd of horses.
She writes edgy romance, where emotion is a contact sport, rough and often raw. It need not be pleasant, heart-warming or forever after. What she seeks is what lies beneath--a dance of extremes, the intersect of need and desire, and the compromises you make when pain and pleasure become indistinguishable.
