Supernatural Chronicles: THE CUPIDS Synopsis:

#AreYouReadyToHunt?

Evelyn Bowden, at nineteen, sacrificed herself for Tate Gallier. Her act inspired the gods to deem her immortal as a cupid. Now, she’s been assigned to apprentice with Andel Lambros, a 200 year-old heavenly archer that looks 24. The purpose of the cupids is easy enough for the newbie to understand, and to resent. But the significance of their work doesn’t have time to sink in when Evelyn is given her first assignment.
Cupid elders have received a message and need their newest, least experienced, comrade-in-arms—Evelyn—to retrieve an arrow. That means she must release a mortal from an everlasting love. When she discovers the arrow is fastened to none other than her own love, Tate’s heart, Evelyn battles with letting him go. The century old war for love may be lost if Evelyn doesn’t gear up to save them all.
Being a cupid takes more than a bow and some arrows. Evelyn is challenged to deliver her arrow, let go of her first love, and trust an ancient brooding cupid with her existence. Giving up her lost love’s arrow as an offering will be more painful than getting hit by a streetcar, and she knows how that feels since it’s what started the whole predicament. Will Evelyn be able to keep her covenant to her fellow cupids? Will she save them all or lose everything trying?

INTERVIEW:

Hi Everyone! I am Rebecca Ethington, one of the authors from The Supernatural Chronicles: New Orleans. In fact, I wrote the Noir, and as the author of the final book, I had the privilege to not only read all of the other books in the series, but to delve beyond their pages and into their characters as I tried all of the stories into one.

One of the stories that I had the privilege to read was written by Kallie Ross, the author of The Cupids.

This story was full of bittersweet loss, love, healing - and most of all - intense adventure.

And yes, I may have even cried.

I am thrilled to be able to interview Kallie for The Supernatural Chronicles Mardi Gras Parade, and I hope you enjoy delving into the ins and outs of her story as much as I did. Don’t forget to pick up your copy of The Supernatural Chronicles!
Kallie, I loved your take on the Cupid Mythology, especially the detail about Cupid's being spawned from a deep heart felt sacrifice. Was this something you had read previous, or a device you had created?

I’ve actually never read a Cupid-based story, ever! The only cupid characters I was privy to were from the TV shows Charmed and Supernatural. I really wanted to write about paranormal race as tortured as the Vampires or Werewolves without all the blood! LOL! I think there’s sacrifice involved for anyone choosing an immortal life, but with Cupids it’s double-tortured. Their sacrifice leads to an eternity of choosing to give humans the very thing they died for, a.k.a. Love.

Evelyn’s back-story was heartbreaking, and one that I connected with in many different ways. Was her journey a hard one to write? How deeply did you connect with it?

There is so much backstory for Evelyn that I had to wade through to get to the beginning of The Cupids, and it was heart-wrenching. Working for a foster care agency at one point in my life, I learned a lot about how kids raised in the system approach unconditional love. I also fell in love in college, like Evelyn. My heart wasn’t my own anymore after I gave it away. I definitely connected with her.  I think I would even react the same way Evelyn does when being confronted with becoming a Cupid.

One of the funny things about your Cupids, is when they become more able bodied they begin to use sugared food names as a source of exclamation. This made me laugh! Where in the world did you come up with this idea?

Well, at first Evelyn had a bit of a potty mouth, and then I started working on my mythology for the Cupids. I couldn’t justify a heavenly immortal cussing! LOL! So, I figured a way for Cupids to be disciplined two-fold. Their earthly idols, from their human life, are brought to the surface when they lose control. I wouldn’t anyone knowing what I struggled with as a human, can you imagine what some Cupids would say?!? Holy Hemsworth! It could get embarrassing, and be revealing.
(BTW, mine is totally sweets, like Evelyn). Dark Chocolate!

Death affects us all differently in life, and it affected your two star-crossed lovers very heavily in The Cupids. Have you been affected by death in the past in order to write something so poignant?

I actually lost both my grandparents (who raised me early in life) in the last 18 months. Essentially, I lost my first Loves. They were wonderful people, and they gave me a glimpse of what love should look like with their love for each other. They’s been married 69.5 years when my grandfather passed away, and my grandmother had a difficult time living without him. She passed last summer.
I have to ask, because of the sweet thing… But what is your favorite treat?
Ha! I love all sweets, and it really depends on my mood. I guess you can never go wrong with Hot Tamales or Milky Way.

In the Noir we learn a secret about all of the Supernatural Creatures, and why they all held a piece of the seal that closed up hell. Do you think your characters would have guessed that something so sinister lay in their past?

No way! At least Andel wouldn’t. I think if Evelyn would have asked (even) more questions if she’d been able to talk to more Cupids. Since she was paired with Andel (he's her mentor), Evelyn had one goal and that was to make it through her mission without another lecture.

Lastly, as Dynamis continues into a new city, are you following your characters journey there, or will we be introduced to a whole new variety of supernaturals from you?

I am in love with my Cupids! (pun intended) I’ve started a novel starring Evelyn and Andel, and hope to finish it in the Spring. I’m also planning for the future novellas with Dynamis to help bridge the gaps between more novels and new characters.
