Book Summary:
A prophecy foreseen by Edwina, a powerful
enchantress, remains the only hope to topple her iron-fisted rule. Now, Lina, a
simple peasant girl, learns her future is linked to this prophecy. Edwina
brings Lina to the Fairy World to fulfill her destiny—conquering Queen Dahlia.
Separated from the enchantress by agents of the dark queen, Lina begins a
perilous journey to join the Resistors, who await her return to mount their
attack. Thrust into this strange world, Lina must navigate relations with a
host of different fairies and animals, never knowing who seeks to help or to
thwart her.
Finally reunited with the Resistors, Lina must
find the strength to lead her people and fulfill the prophecy. Meanwhile,
Dahlia prepares for the battle, which will ultimately decide the survival of
her reign, while reflecting on the path that brought her and her foe to this
moment of reckoning.
A fairy tale with an ending twist, A Prophecy of
Wings is loosely based on Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen and examines
the ideas of predestined fates and the subsequent, sometimes unforeseen,
consequences.

My Writing Inspiration – Jane McGarry
As an author, the second most frequent question I am
asked is where my inspiration comes from. For me, stories have been a lifelong
passion, an escape from some unfortunate childhood tragedies. Reading enabled
me to enter different worlds and see life through the eyes of a myriad of
characters. This love of books led to the natural inclination to imagine my own
stories. For years I wrote just for myself, the idea of publishing a book only
a dream. All I knew was that I never felt more fulfilled and in sync with life
than when I put pen to paper. Endless concepts filled my mind.
This brings me to the most frequent question I am
asked: Where do your ideas come from? The truth is, and I think most authors
would agree, I don’t exactly know. Inside my head are wisps of thoughts
struggling to break out of murky ambiguity. The writing process for me is
sifting through these semi-developed forms to cultivate what already exists
rather than deliberately creating something new. Plot and character reveal
themselves over time, and not always in the manner I expect, which is honestly
one of the most exciting parts of crafting a story.
I had always been a big fan of “knights
and castle” books. There is nothing quite like a classic adventure story and
that is where the idea for Not Every Girl came from. The thought of
taking this genre and inserting a strong female heroine and what her
experience would be in a world full of men was really my jumping off point. Olivia proving her capabilities as a fighter while trying to negotiate
the overwhelming emotions of falling in love was an interesting juxtaposition
to me.
A Prophecy of Wings was rooted in my love of fairy tales, specifically Thumbelina.
I remember taking it out of the library over and over when I was about four. On
the cover, there was a tiny girl sitting inside a flower and it simply
fascinated me. Though I loved the story, the ending never quite satisfied me,
so I decided to do my own take on it. The book also gave me the chance to
develop an antagonist, Dahlia, whose viewpoint contrasts with the
protagonist’s, Lina, throughout the narrative. A main theme in A Prophecy of
Wings is how adversity can change someone for either the better or the
worse. The different journeys of the two main characters fueled the plot for
this story.
Writing, like any art, is an inherent part of the human experience and
the inspiration already exists inside the artist. This does not imply it is
always easy. Some days ideas flow so freely, I can hardly keep up with my mind
when writing them down. Other days are more of a struggle. I have found at
these times it is usually better to take a walk or concentrate on something
else. It is amazing how in the middle of doing a mundane task like the dishes,
inspiration springs into my head. My aim is to create characters who readers
can see a part of themselves in and provide them a feeling of connectedness
with the world. I am blessed as an author if my stories can achieve this.
Thank you for reading. I would love to connect with readers and
aspiring authors for any additional questions.
